What is Mindfulness
Mindfulness, rooted in 2500 years old secular Buddhist teachings, now finds a place for itself in fields such as psychology and neuroscience. An oft cited definition of mindfulness by Jon Kabat Zinn is: “Paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally.” Contemporary definitions of mindfulness often include the purposeful cultivation of qualities of compassion, joy, openness, equanimity, and friendliness.
What are the benefits of Mindfulness
Mindfulness practices enhances attention, improves emotion regulation, and reduce stress. Neuroscience studies document measurable changes in brain regions associated with memory, sense of self, empathy, and stress with mindful meditation practice.
Mindfulness and Neuroscience
Neuroscience is the scientific study of brain and nervous system. Mindfulness neuroscience research integrates theory and methods from eastern contemplative traditions, western psychology and neuroscience, and is based on neuroimaging techniques, physiological measures and behavioural tests. The themes include how mindfulness can shape behaviour change, attention and self-control as well as themes for business such as increase in productivity, leadership skills, team work, creativity, innovation, better decision making, change management and transforming culture.

Proven Benefits of Mindfulness & Compassion Practices
Stress Reduction
Engaging in daily meditation for eight weeks has been shown to reduce stress by inducing positive changes in the brain.
Resilience and Emotional Regulation
Self-compassion and mindfulness practices promote resilience by reducing fear of failure, increasing motivation for positive change, and fostering a growth mindset.
Breaking The Cycle of Aversion and Rumination
We have two modes of functioning in our minds: the “doing mode” and the “being mode”. The doing mode is good for solving simple problems, but not helpful for complex problems. When we’re stuck in the doing mode, we tend to ruminate or avoid difficult problems. The being mode helps us see our choices more clearly and gives us freedom to solve complex problems.
Personal and Interpersonal Well-Being
Self-compassion practice can enhance psychological well-being and promote eudaimonic happiness, involving finding purpose and striving for personal growth. It can also improve interpersonal functioning and the ability to sustain caregiving.
Emotional Freedom
Mindfulness practices help to reduce our reflexive reactions and provides us with greater energy and resources to respond effectively to our experiences.
Enhanced Well-Being with Experiential Focus
Recent research has indicated that adopting a present-centered focus of self-reference, also known as Experiential Focus (EF), may have a significant impact on human well-being.
