and Compassion Program

What is the Mindfulness and Compassion Program?

MCP (Mindfulness and Compassion Program) is an IMTA (International Mindfulness Teachers Association) accredited 8 week program developed by Breathing Mind based on Neuroscience, Cognitive Science and Buddhist Psychology. The intention is to invite Mindfulness and Compassion into our lives. Mindfulness allows us to see and acknowledge our experience with qualities of openness and curiosity. Compassion responds with kindness, empathy, and friendliness. Together they provide a powerful tool for emotional resilience and well-being.

A human being is a part of the whole called by us 'universe,' a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separate from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.

Benefits
of the Program

In the MCP, we aim to cultivate awareness of the space between stimulus and response. We practice savoring and feeling gratitude for positive emotions, without grasping onto them. At the same time, we learn to approach difficult emotions with openness, curiosity, and compassion, without reacting with aversion.

Studies have shown that Mindfulness and Compassion practices for 8 weeks:

Enhanced cognitive function, improved attention and concentration.

Through reduction in our reflexive reactions,we have greater energy and resources to respond effectively to our experiences.

Better regulation of emotions and responding to challenging situations with greater ease.

Cultivating present-moment awareness increases sleep quality.

Better understanding of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

Self-compassion practices can promote eudaimonic happiness, involving finding purpose, striving for personal growth and interpersonal well-being.

Ultimately, happiness comes down to choosing between the discomfort of becoming aware of your mental afflictions and the discomfort of being ruled by them.

Frequently asked questions

Click below to read the studies made for similar 8 week programs with mindfulness and compassion meditation practices.

The neuroscience research has shown that 8-week programs can have a significant impact on the brain and body. Studies have shown that participating in an 8-week mindfulness and compassion program can lead to a reduction in stress and anxiety, an increase in resilience, improved emotional regulation, and enhanced well-being. These benefits are supported by changes in the brain, including an increase in gray matter density in areas related to attention, emotion regulation, and empathy.

For example, a study conducted by Harvard researchers found that participants who completed an 8-week mindfulness program had an increase in the gray matter density in the hippocampus, a region of the brain associated with learning and memory. Another study found that an 8-week compassion program led to an increase in activity in the prefrontal cortex, an area of the brain associated with attention and emotional regulation.
